Resistance to slavery

The slaves were not ok with this life style though resistance to slavery started in 1760. But there was resistance even before that, slaves would run away from plantations and go to the maroons in the mountains. The maroons would then go on to have two wars with the British in 1739 and 1740. After this the British proposed a treaty that gave them rights as free men and women, but in return they would have to stop fighting and turn in runaway slaves. This created a tear in the maroons as some thought they shouldn't turn them in while some did.
